Invisalign uses a series of strong, thin, clear aligners to gently move your teeth into the proper position.. Each set of aligners is meant to be worn for 1 to 2 weeks. Over time, each set of aligners will move your teeth slightly. When worn according to our instructions, most patients can achieve their smile goals with Invisalign within a year’s time.
The Invisalign process begins with an orthodontic consultation at Scarsdale Smiles. If you are a candidate for Invisalign Dr. Cox will take photos and impressions of your mouth. Then, he will work closely with his Invisalign lab to develop your customized treatment plan. Within a few weeks, your custom plan will be created and you can start with your first set of aligners. You’ll begin wearing them for about 20-22 hours per day. About every 4 to 6 weeks, you will come in so Dr. Cox can evaluate the progress of your treatment and provide you with your next several sets of aligners. The duration of treatment is based on the severity of the case and overall oral health, but most patients finish in under a year.
The main difference between Invisalign and ClearCorrect are the materials used to create your aligners. For the most part, though, these treatments use the same basic method to gently shift your teeth into the correct position. Both treatments use clear plastic aligners as an alternative to braces to straighten your teeth.
This depends on the complexity of your orthodontic case and how compliant you are with wearing your aligners. Simple cases of minor crooked teeth can be corrected in as little as 6 months while more complex malocclusions like overbites may take up to 2 years to treat.
On average, most patients complete Invisalign treatment within a year. However, the most important aspect of completing your Invisalign treatment on time is to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. Failing to do this will ensure that your orthodontic treatment drags on for longer than it needs to.
Invisalign has traditionally been considered an orthodontic treatment that’s only suitable for very minor orthodontic cases such as crooked teeth and small gaps. However, with the introduction of Invisalign attachment buttons and elastics even patients with more severe cases of misaligned bites can be treated with Invisalign.
All of the following can be treated with Invisalign:
Patients who wear clear aligners can enjoy a completely restriction-free diet which is one of the biggest advantages of Invisalign. However, while you can eat what you want, you must take your aligners out first so you don’t trap food particles inside or stain the aligners.
While wearing your aligners, you should only consume water (as long as it isn’t hot). Hot liquids can alter the mold of your aligners and reduce their ability to shift your teeth. Always take your aligners out, rinse them, and place them in their designated storage case before eating and drinking.
When you’re ready to put them back in, brush your teeth and rinse your aligners again. Then, you can put them back in. This helps keep your aligners hygienic, stain-free, and clean without sacrificing your treatment. Ensure that you don’t take the aligners out for more than 2 hours a day because they need to be worn for 22 hours a day.
Many insurance policies will cover Invisalign similarly to the way they cover traditional braces, such as paying a percentage or a certain dollar amount. There may also be a cap on how much your insurance will cover for orthodontic treatment.
However, some insurance policies consider Invisalign a unique cosmetic treatment that is unlike traditional orthodontic treatment and will not cover it. You’ll have to reach out to your insurance provider and ask for details about your plan, whether they will cover Invisalign, and how much of the cost they will cover.
At Scarsdale Smiles, we never want you to forego treatment because you don’t have adequate insurance coverage. That’s why we offer discounted pricing for patients who join our in-office membership plan. Enjoy no deductibles, waiting periods, or copays.
